Books
Together, Carin and Stina Wirsén have written about 40 very popular children’s books that have been published and sold in Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Japan. Stina Wirsén is an illustrator, and her mom, Carin Wirsén, is a teacher.
The philosophy that shaped these books is this: small children should be taught skills such as colouring, counting, and reading in a pleasant way – skills that stimulate their natural curiosity and desire to explore.
Carin Wirsén’s interests in children’s early language development and their abilities to grasp concepts are central to her work. Her experience as a remedial reading teacher is reflected in her writing. She believes that parents should also have fun when they read to their kids, because children are sensitive to things that parents find entertaining.
Throughout her career, Stina Wirsén has created illustrations for adults and children. Switching between genres inspires her, keeps her alert, and prevents her from getting stuck in a rut. She visits preschools before starting work on a new children’s book. Spending time with young audiences always provides important input for each project.
